The 15th Century farmhouse in the Dordogne would be a favourite job of mine. Anne and I visited the site for a couple of days and by the time we had left had pretty much designed, drawn and been given the go ahead.
The kitchen was a fantastic room with massive beams and beautiful stone walls the design featured one of our big curved chimneys and several curved cupboards. Nothing in the room was square and the rough walls allowed us to show off our scribing skill. The implications of forgetting something on a job so far from home, didn’t bear thinking about, so meticulous planning was required along with taking enough materials and tools to make just about everything onsite.
The standard of work by the French craftsmen was superb and they went out of their way to help, as did our clients who looked after us like old friends.
